GUSTAVO ADOLFO BÉCQUERNacido en Sevilla en 1836, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer es sin duda el poeta más universal y definitivo del siglo XIX español, y por supuesto uno de los que mayor influencia ha tenido en los poetas más destacados del siglo XX.Las Rimas de Bécquer han acompañado a los lectores de poesía durante décadas, su claridad, su ternura, su absoluta sinceridad en los temas amorosos, su modernidad a pesar de los años, las convierten en una obra esencial y determinante.Bécquer es de esos pocos poetas que parecen saber lo que pensamos y sentimos. Murió en 1870, en Madrid, cuando en Sevilla vivían un eclipse total de sol.

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer vivió su infancia y adolescencia en Sevilla, donde estudió humanidades y pintura. Más tarde se trasladó a Madrid para desarrollar su carrera literaria, cuyos difíciles comienzos le obligaron a dedicarse al periodismo y a realizar adaptaciones de teatro extranjero para financiar su producción. El éxito comenzó a sonreírle gracias a sus famosas Leyendas y a sus Cartas literarias a una mujer, donde expuso sus teorías sobre la poesía y el amor. Sin embargo, fueron sus Rimas las que le reportaron mayor fama, ya que iniciaron la corriente romántica de poesía intimista inspirada en Heine y opuesta a la retórica y ampulosidad de poetas románticos anteriores, lo que resulto totalmente novedoso.

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer han sido siempre relegadas a un segundo plano favoreciéndose, en cambio, su creación en verso, las Rimas. Sin embargo, superaron a sus predecesoras y coetáneas en calidad literaria, y marcaron un hito de auténtica modernidad narrativa. Ensoñación, misterio, lirismo, atmósfera de irrealidad y magia son el fruto de una perfecta fusión entre la tradición y la elaboración literaria en un autor que con humildísima confesión manifestó: "He leído un poco, he sentido bastante y he pensado mucho".
