Georges Mounin Biography

Georges Mounin, born Louis Leboucher, was a French linguist and professor of linguistics and semiology at the University of Aix-en-Provence. A fervent disciple of André Martinet, his work explored a vast array of subjects. He delved into the history of linguistics, its definitions, and traditional issues such as semiology, semantics, and translation. Mounin also investigated the relationship of linguistics to other fields, including philosophy, literature (especially poetry), and society. He was also a noted specialist in Renaissance Italy.
