Petrus Borel was a French writer whose extravagant and eccentric writing foreshadowed Surrealism. Born Joseph-Pierre Borel dHauterive in Lyon, he was known as le Lycanthrope ("wolfman") and was a central figure among Parisian bohemians. Despite a lack of commercial success, his unique literary approach anticipated future avant-garde movements. He died in Mostaganem, Algeria.
