Den Kern des Buches bilden Beiträge des 3. internationalen Wortkshops „Coptica – Gnostica – Mandaica", der im Herbst 2017 in Prag stattfand. In ihnen werden mit Blick auf Wirkung und Rezeption biblischer Texte in außerbiblischem Kontext jüngste Forschungsergebnisse aus Koptologie, Religionsgeschichte und Theologie präsentiert. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchungen stehen Schriften aus dem koptischen Handschriftenfund von Nag Hammadi, doch kommen auch Texte unter anderem zu Manichäismus und Mandäismus zu Wort und werden Überlegungen zu antiker und moderner Übersetzerpraxis angestellt. Insgesamt werden in diesem Band verschiedenartige Themen behandelt, die von allgemeinen Erwägungen, philologischen, literaturwissenschaftlichen und exegetischen Fragestellungen bis hin zu missions- und rezeptionsgeschichtlicher Darstellung in Wort und Bild reichen und das Interesse von Religionshistorikern, Koptologen, Theologen und klassischen Philologen finden dürften.

This is the fourth volume of proceedings of the workgroup Egypt and Austria, which has recently developed into Egypt and Central Europe. The volume includes contributions on Austrian migrations to Egypt and vice versa, on the political as well as economic relations within the Eastern Mediterranean during the 19th century and there is also a special section devoted to the intercultural (mis-)representations in arts. Two articles remind us of the activities and literary work of Alois Musil, the antipode of Lawrence of Arabia. Contributions are in English, some in German. With this volume, Egypt and Austria turns into a regular series.
