Robert Lindsay

Robert Lindsay of Pitscottie was a Scottish chronicler whose work stands as the first history of Scotland composed in Scots rather than Latin. His sole surviving work, The Historie and Chronicles of Scotland, continues the tradition of Hector Boece. While it occasionally devolves into mere chronicle entries, the text is marked by passages of great picturesqueness. Despite its inaccuracies in detail, it offers valuable insights into the social history of the period and served as a resource for Walter Scott.
