Walter Ciszek Biography
November 4, 1904 – December 8, 1984
Walter Ciszek was a Polish-American Jesuit priest who undertook clandestine missionary work in the Soviet Union between 1939 and 1963. He spent fifteen years in Gulag confinement and labor, preceded by five years in Moscow's notorious Lubyanka prison. Upon his release in 1963, he authored two books sharing his experiences and spiritual insights gained during his time in the Soviet Union. His life is currently under consideration by the Catholic Church for potential beatification or canonization.
