Robert McNamara

    June 9, 1916 – July 6, 2009

    Robert Strange McNamara was an American business executive and the eighth Secretary of Defense who played a significant role in escalating United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Prior to public service, he was one of the "Whiz Kids" who helped rebuild Ford Motor Company after World War II, briefly serving as its president. McNamara was responsible for introducing systems analysis into public policy, which developed into the field of policy analysis. He remains the longest-serving Secretary of Defense, holding the position for over seven years.
