Nina Baym

This literary historian questioned the underrepresentation of women in the American literary canon and dedicated her career to correcting that imbalance. She explored the rich output of 19th-century women's novels, discovering and advocating for writers whose work deserved more than obscurity. Her scholarship brought to light the significant contributions and varied quality of female authorship in American literary history. She sought to understand the prevalence of these often-overlooked voices.
