This Urtext edition of Beethoven's piano sonatas is based on the autograph or manuscript and/or first edition(s) of the works. This volume contains opuses 57 (Appassionata); 78,79,81a(Les Adieux); 90,101,106 (Hammerklavier); 109,110 and 111. The editorial additions have been kept to a minimum and are indicated by square brackets. In regard to the manner of performance, the exucution of ornaments, and fingering, no suggestions have been made. Beethoven's original fingering is included unchanged. The inconsistencies of the sources are explained in the notes.

Um sie von den Sonaten zu unterscheiden, wird der Begriff Sonatinen verwendet, ein Brauch, der von den Verlegern stammt. Redaktionelle Ergänzungen wurden auf ein Minimum beschränkt und in den Anmerkungen erläutert.
