Karolína Světlá Biography
February 24, 1830 – September 7, 1899
Karolína Světlá is recognized as the founder of the Czech village novel. Her work drew inspiration from friendships with leading Czech writers and international influences, notably French author George Sand. Personal tragedies also shaped her writings and her focus on the position of women in society. Světlá was also active in feminist organizations, advocating for women's education and independence.
