Jean Léon Jaurès was a pivotal figure in French socialist leadership. Evolving from an Opportunist Republican stance, he became a leading social democrat and ultimately headed the French Socialist Party. Known for his antimilitarist views, his life was tragically cut short by assassination at the dawn of World War I. Jaurès remains a central historical figure of the French Left.
