Laurette Séjourné

Laurette Séjourné was an Italian-Mexican archaeologist and anthropologist who explored the living legacy of the pre-Columbian past within modern Indigenous cultures. Her work focused on the profound connection between ancient symbols like 'Ollin' (movement) and contemporary Indigenous traditions, uncovering geometric and cosmological dimensions that transcended European spatial understanding. Through her excavations at Teotihuacan and studies of Nahua cosmology and religion, particularly the figure of Quetzalcoatl, Séjourné challenged conventional archaeological theories. Despite concerns about the esoteric appropriation of her research, her legacy remains valued for its advocacy for Indigenous education and preservation of cultural heritage.
