Johann Christoph Blumhardt

    July 16, 1805 – February 25, 1880

Johann Christoph Blumhardt was a clergyman whose pastoral work took an extraordinary turn when confronted with a parishioner suffering from a severe nervous disorder accompanied by strange psychic phenomena. Convinced the case resembled New Testament accounts of demonic possession, Blumhardt recognized the limits of his own wisdom and power. In a moment of profound spiritual seeking, he and the young woman united in prayer, expressing a desire to witness divine intervention: "Lord Jesus, help us. We have watched long enough what the devil does; now we want to see what the Lord Jesus can do."
