Kate is 11 years old when she moves with her mother to the country after the break-up of her parents' marriage. Their new home is situated on the edge of a wood, the scene of a mysterious death and murder some fifty years before. As Kate begins to investigate, feuds and friendships old and new are aroused before the mystery is finally resolved.
