Charlotte Reiniger was a German film director and the foremost pioneer of silhouette animation. Her best known films, including a 1926 work, are considered among the oldest surviving feature-length animated films. Reiniger is also noted for devising a predecessor to the first multiplane camera, which she employed in all of her more than 40 films. Her innovative approach to animation and distinct visual style left an indelible mark on the history of cinema.
