January 1, 1450 – January 1, 1520
Hermann Bote was a Middle Low German author and chronicler. His works, including the masterpiece "Till Eulenspiegel," are notable for their wordplay and imagery, but also for their sharp critique of social injustices. Emerging from a blacksmith's family, Bote became the city scribe and later governor of his hometown, Braunschweig. His literary contribution lies in his unique perspective on societal issues and the way he presents them to the reader.
