Otto Gross

    March 17, 1877 – February 13, 1920

Otto Gross was an Austrian psychoanalyst and radical thinker who challenged established social and psychological norms. An early disciple of Sigmund Freud, he later diverged into anarchism, developing his own form of depth psychology that rejected psychological repression as a necessity for civilization. Gross championed an early form of anti-psychiatry and sexual liberation, seeking to guide society back to a postulated non-hierarchical 'golden age.' While ostracized from the mainstream psychoanalytic movement, his influence extended to artists and thinkers who shaped modern counterculture.
