These are the proceedings of a symposium held in Munich on November 24, 2006 dedicated to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Rüdiger Rackwitz, the recently retired head of the Reliability Theory Group of the Institute for Materials and Construction at the Technical University Munich, on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The proceedings are edited by the 'Förderverein Massivbau der TU München e. V.' together with Prof. Dr. Michael H. Faber, Prof. ir. Ton Vrouwenvelder and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr.-Ing. E. h. Konrad Zilch. The topics of the articles cover aspects and recent developments in structural reliability and reflect the area of research of the pioneering contributions of Prof. Rackwitz and his group in the past and present, most notably in the field of stochastic modeling of structural loads and resistances, the development of numerical methods and, more recently, on socio-economically acceptable safety of structures.
