Der Künstler Helmut Middendorf (*1953) gehört zu den renommiertesten Deutschen Malern. Als Mitglied der „Neuen Wilden“ prägte er in den 80er Jahren die Kunstlandschaft nachhaltig. Ob in der Malerei und Zeichnung, Fotografie oder Collage, immer ist der Künstler auf der Suche nach neuen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten. Phasen abstrakter Malerei wechseln mit gegenständlichen Bilderfolgen. Auf Serien in leuchtender Farbigkeit folgen Bilder mit begrenzter Palette. Seit Anfang der 90er Jahre lebt und arbeitet Helmut Middendorf auch in Athen. Konsequent und experimentell hat er hier seitdem sein Oeuvre um neue Werkgruppen erweitert. Das aktuelle Buch zeigt eine Auswahl von Middendorfs vielfältigem Schaffen. Ein großer Teil der Arbeiten im aktuellen Buch wird zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht.

The book Berlin - The 80s & Early Works documents the evolution of Middendorf's large-scale paintings in a concentrated selection of outstanding images: from the first exhibitions in the legendary gallery in Berlin's Moritzplatz at the end of the 1970s to the international exhibitions of the 1980s. Some of the images in this volume appear for the first time in print. Extracts from Middendorf's photo archive supplement the illustrated volume and provide a clear picture of the atmosphere and the urban Berlin and New York environment in which Middendorf's painting emerged.

Since the mid-1980s, Helmut Middendorf (born 1953) has created collages, sketchbooks and paintings that satirize the enormity of contemporary media waste, from magazines and newspapers to digital downloads. This publication documents a selection of work made between 1994 and 2012.
