The book presents an overview of Indonesia's science, research, and technology (SRT) landscape, offering suggestions for improvement. It is based on the findings of the PERISKOP project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project's focus was on two critical issues: how innovation and technology policy can support the decentralization process in Indonesia and how to facilitate the transfer of R&D results between research institutions and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It also examines the role of SMEs in innovation and their potential to become the backbone of a restructured, innovative economy. The project includes twelve work packages, each summarized with recommendations for enhancing the Indonesian SRT system. The findings provide a thorough assessment of the national and regional SRT landscape, highlighting relevant framework conditions. The recommendations aim to boost the technological capabilities of Indonesian industries, enhance public and industrial R&D efforts, and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian products in both international and domestic markets.
