John Lawson Stoddard was an American writer and lecturer who gained popularity through his travelogues. He transformed his experiences from travels around the world into a series of popular lectures, which were published in book form. His books, often supplemented with illustrations from his own photographs, covered a wide range of subjects from art and architecture to archaeology and natural history. Later in life, he also dedicated himself to poetry and religious themes, with his work in the field of religious apologetics still in print today.
