The papers in this volume contributed by scholars from twenty countries are the product of the CISLE (Centre for the International Study of Literatures in English) Conference held at Innsbruck University. In accordance with our conference theme "Literatures in English: New Frontiers in Research", these selected papers contain what the critics regard as most important new aspects in their own writing and the works of other scholars or writers, or new thematic parameters and methodological approaches with exemplary illustrations and interpretations. The approaches reach from aesthetic and ethical, semiotic, intertextual and intermedial issues, on the one hand, to questions of identity, slavery and abolition, alterity and otherness as well as diaspora, transnationalism and transhumanism, on the other. Also, a great variety of aspects of writers and works from each of the continents are taken into consideration

The papers presented here offer a major challenge to previously conceived ideas about issues like slavery, racism, ethnic relations, nationalism, and cultural identity generating responses, critiques, revisions, counterarguments, and new perspectives. This volume is not only meant to address important matters of the past but also of the present and future as racism, ethnic relations, and cultural identity – with the attendant issues of human rights, freedom, and emancipation – will assume an ever-increasing significance in our globalised but ethically, socially, and culturally divided world. The volume is subdivided into three sections: «Racism and Nationalism» containing papers dealing with issues of racism and nationalism in a broader context, «Slavery: From Past to Present» exploring the concept of slavery in different literary genres and historical periods, «Cultural Identity and Ethnic Relations» dealing with cultural memory, nationalism, and relations between cultural and ethnic groups.

Throughout the 20th century, 'English Literature' has transformed into 'Literatures in English,' significantly influencing English literary criticism. This shift has opened new areas of study and sparked critical debates regarding terminology, approaches, and values, particularly in Postcolonial Studies. This volume reviews the current landscape, aiming to identify the creative potential within the globalized realm of English literature and literary studies. It examines a variety of themes, featuring voices from around the world that engage in dialogue to advance literary theory and critical practice. The volume stems from an International Conference organized by CISLE at the University of Innsbruck, showcasing contributions from thirty-eight scholars addressing topics like literary criticism versus cultural studies, intermediality, and the comparative approach, alongside postcolonial discourse, ethnic identity, interculturality, and more. Notable contributors include Joan Anim-Addo, Dennis Haskell, and Edwin Thumboo, among others. The book is divided into three sections: the first focuses on theoretical and comparative literary studies, the second on Postcolonial literary theory and practice, and the third on region-specific studies encompassing Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The editors, Wolfgang Zach and Michael Kenneally, exemplify the volume's international scope.

Der Katalog ist die sechste Publikation im KraskaEckstein Verlag. Der Katalog erschien anlässlich der gleichnamigen Ausstellung 'Die fremde Hand - Computergenerierte Zeichnungen von Wolfgang Zach' der Kunsthalle Bremen (22. April - 15. Juni 2008). Der Katalog ist auch als Editions Auflage (40 STK. für je 60 Euro) mit beiliegender Originalzeichnung erhältlich.
