Alois Hartmann, frustrated by his father's decision not to pass the farm to him, immigrates to New Zealand with his wife Judith. While they build a successful property in Taranaki, Judith feels isolated and disillusioned. On Christmas Eve 1953, she embarks on a journey to find solace, unaware of the tragic fate that awaits her.
