Günter Schabowski Book order
January 4, 1929 – November 1, 2015
Günter Schabowski was an official of the ruling party of East Germany. He gained worldwide fame in November 1989 when he improvised a slightly mistaken answer to a press conference question. This improvised response rapidly raised popular expectations beyond the government's planned timeline, leading to massive crowds gathering at the Berlin Wall the same night and forcing its opening. Soon after, the entire inner German border was opened.
