Valais, with its towering peaks like the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, is a paradise for Alpinists and an ideal hiking destination. To cover the numerous walking routes between the Grimsel Pass and Lake Geneva, two separate guides have been published: Upper (East) and Lower (West) Valais. This volume also includes a six-day circular trek around the Mattertal and a three-day crossing of the Simplon Pass on the historic Stockalper trail. The companion volume, Valais West, features 50 walks in the French-speaking region near Sion, extending to Lake Geneva. Each tour provides details on public transport access, dining, and accommodation options, along with alternative route suggestions. Difficulty levels are color-coded for easy selection, and detailed route descriptions, maps at scales of 1:50,000 and 1:75,000, and height profiles ensure clarity. Numerous color photographs inspire wanderlust among hikers.
