Hans Paasche

    April 3, 1881 – May 21, 1920

Hans Paasche was a German naval officer and a committed pacifist. His life was marked by a remarkable breadth of interests, encompassing big game hunting, nature conservation, African exploration, and social reform, alongside his dedication to abstinence, vegetarianism, authorship, and revolutionary ideals. Despite a short but impactful existence, he persistently sought to challenge and transform the prevailing "Deutschland über alles" military mindset of Prussian society. Through his writings and actions, Paasche aimed to dismantle entrenched militaristic and nationalistic sentiments.
