David Feintuch schreckt auch nicht vor der Gewalt und der Brutalität der mittelalterlichen Umgebung zurück. Die Darstellung von Rodrigos Anstrengungen, Selbstvertrauen und Anerkennung zu gewinnen, sind eindrucksvoll und spannend beschrieben. Stoff für eine Fortsetzung gibt es, doch keinen wirklichen Bedarf. Die Geschichte des Erwachsenwerdens ist das Herzstück dieses Buches und es schlägt sehr intensiv.
