      On September 19, 1985, Frank Zappa testified before the United States Senate Commerce, Technology, and Transportation committee, attacking the Parents Music Resource Center or PMRC, a music organization co-founded by Tipper Gore, wife of then-senator Al Gore. The PMRC consisted of many wives of politicians, including the wives of five members of the committee, and was founded to address the issue of song lyrics with sexual or satanic content. Zappa saw their activities as on a path towards censorship,and called their proposal for voluntary labelling of records with explicit content "extortion" of the music industry. This is what happened.

Seine Songs waren schräg („Kein Akkord ist hässlich genug, um all die Scheußlichkeiten zu kommentieren, die von der Regierung in unserem Namen verübt werden“), seine Liedtexte schlüpfrig bis grob unzüchtig, voll bitterböser Ironie und messerscharfer Zynismen. „Wer mit so einem Gesicht geboren wird, ist nun einmal zum Bürgerschreck bestimmt“, so Zappa. „Zonx. Texte letzter Hand, 1977-1994“ enthält die Texte sämtlicher Zappa-Alben seit „Bongo Fury“. Das Buch wurde von Zappa noch selbst zusammengestellt und redigiert. Übersetzt hat es Carl Weissner, der vertrackte Textpassagen mit Zappa diskutierte und von ihm kommentieren ließ. Die Frankfurter Rundschau empfiehlt daher: „Allein schon wegen der hervorragenden deutschen Übersetzung von Carl Weissner eine Pflichtlektüre für alle Fans des Exzentrikers aus Baltimore.“ Englisch/Deutsch.
