He lived for several years in Anchorage, Alaska, but spent most of his life in Paradise Valley, Montana, where he still resides with his parents Kenneth Paolini and Talita Hodgkinson and younger sister Angela in a rural two-story cottage on the banks of the Yellowstone River. The surrounding nature of the high snow-capped peaks of the Beartooth Mountains has inspired Christopher in a big way in creating fantastic scenery in Eragon. Christopher didn't go to mainstream schools, but he was educated at home all his life. He often wrote short stories and poems, but was also an avid reader. His favourite authors include Bruce Colville, Phillip Pullman and Frank Herbert. At the age of 15, he successfully graduated from high school through a correspondence course and began working on Eragon.

He rose to fame with his epic fantasy series "Eragon." His first book was published when he was only 19 years old and quickly became a bestseller, having also been adapted into film. Paolini's work is known for its detailed world-building and complex characters, giving it a wide readership. In addition to "Eragon" and its sequels "Eldest," "Brisingr" and "Inheritance," Paolini continues to write new projects and expand his literary world.

His other works include the science fiction series "Sleep in the Sea of Stars."
