Im Fokus stehen dabei Techniken wie Stickerei, Weberei und Applikation sowie Ausdrucksformen wie Textilbilder, Wandteppiche, Wohntextilien und Mode. Die Beiträge internationaler Autor_innen werden von Fragen zu Material, Experiment, Intermedialität, Gender, Translokalität und Globalität, zu textilen Architekturen und Sammlungen geleitet. Sie bieten innovative Perspektiven auf ein noch wenig erschlossenes Themenfeld und tragen so zu einer Neubewertung der textilen Künste der Moderne bei.

Design Dispersed pursues the complex and heterogeneous connections between migration and design in the 20th and 21st centuries. The edited volume gathers contributions by international researchers and curators on the question of how design practices and (historical) objects articulate, respond to and critically reflect on migration, flight and displacement: Besides a collage which highlights the aesthetic effects resulting from the networking, overlapping and mixing of forms, another strand of the book looks at the political and social dimensions of design. How are design objects material modes of a critical inquiry on movements of people and things? What role do object trajectories play in the émigré movements of the 1930s and 1940s? Other texts follow the question of how migrants and refugees form their experience and political fight for acceptance into design and architectural productions. A final essay contributes to wordings and projections - what vocabulary do we need in order to adequately think and write about a design dispersed?

How can we think of art history as a discipline that moves process-based, performative, and cultural migratory movement to the center of its theoretical and methodical analyses? With contributions from internationally renowned experts, this manual, for the first time, provides answers as to what consequences the interaction of migration and globalization has on research in the field of the science of art, on curatory practice, and on artistic production and theory. The objective of this multi-vocal anthology is to open up an interdisciplinary discourse surrounding the increased focus on the phenomenon of migration in art history.

Die Gesellschaft für Exilforschung e. V. versteht sich als Plattform zur Koordination, Vernetzung und Sichtbarmachung einer interdisziplinären Erforschung des deutschsprachigen Exils seit 1933 und seiner Folgen bis in die Gegenwart. Sie widmet sich auch der Frage, inwiefern aktuelle Phänomene von Flucht, Vertreibung und Exil im Kontext dieses historischen Wissens und seiner gesellschaftlichen, politischen und kulturellen Implikationen beschrieben und verstanden werden können. Die 1984 gegründete Gesellschaft bündelt Forschungen, die Umstände der Flucht sowie Lebens-, Arbeits- und Integrationsbedingungen der Emigrierten wie auch Möglichkeiten der Remigration rekonstruieren.
