Louwrens Penning Books
December 2, 1854 – January 12, 1927
Louwrens Penning was a popular Dutch novelist, celebrated for his patriotic novels that romanticized the Boer struggles against the British and Zulus in South Africa. Despite being considered lacking in literary value by historians, his works achieved immense popularity in the Netherlands, remaining in demand well into the 1960s. His most famous novel, De held van Spionkop (1901), chronicled the story of Louis Wessels, a leader of the Boer commandos during the Battle of Spion Kop.
