      From A to B

      Von Straßen, Highways und Datenströmen

In a world in which information is disseminated in no time across the globe via digital highways, the built and tarred roads appear as historical relics of a bygone era. What do roads tell us of the civilization of those who constructed them? A road is a symbol of movement and progress, but also of flight and escape. It evokes dreams and projects an alternative, better life. Movement on a road signifies prosperity, development, and liberty in a democratized world. This book explores the basic principles of human thinking and acting that underlie the concept of the road, both from the vantage point of the history of ideas and in terms of its gradual transformation on a virtual level. The artists represented in the exhibition use photography and video to investigate the motif of the road and its relevance to the pressing challenges of our society, such as the issue of migrants and refugees, the global ecological impact of a mobile society, or the fact that all of us are becoming the object of omnipresent video surveillance, especially on roads and highways. Text in English and German.

The Swiss artist Zilla Leutenegger (born in 1968) will be represented with a solo exhibition both in the Museum Morsbroich in 2013 and in the Museum Franz Gertsch in spring 2014. In preparation for these events she has produced a new artist's book. Her works' autobiographical approaches are characteristic of her art. Before her degree course in art and her period as research assistant at the ETH Zurichin the department of architecture, Leutenegger studied at the Business School in Chur. In this period she was intensively concerned with fashion - an analysis over many years that still greatly influences her artistic activity today. This book provides the biography of Fairlady Z, her alter ego. Works with and on pieces of clothing are displayed that tell history. In this autobiographical picture-book the borders between art and life merge. 0Exhibition: Museum Morsbroich, Germany (12.10.-31.12.2013) / Museum Franz Gertsch, Burgdorf, Switzerland (08.03.-31.08.2014).

An exhibition catalog of a show focusing on four artists represented in Switzerland s Hauser & Wirth Collection, Isa Genzken, Richard Jackson, Roman Signer and Diana Thater. What are these artists doing together? Despite their various American or European backgrounds, the varied media and lines of inquiry, their works share one formal motif - a circle, circular pattern or rotating movement. Whether this movement is real or implied, possible, inherent in the work or performed by the viewer in space, it s there and brings together this fascinating group of installational works. Perspectives are lost only to be rediscovered, presenting themselves anew and in multiplied form. An exciting collection of work including video, sculpture, painting and photography. Contributions by Michaela Unterdorfer, Karolin Kober, Sabine Sarwa, Fritz Emslander and Barbara Wagner.
