The multimedia artist Olaf Breuning (b. Schaffhausen, Switzerland, 1970; lives and works in Upstate New York) has built a multifaceted oeuvre in installation art, photography, video, sculpture, drawing, and performance that questions contemporary reality. In a recent series of paintings, he playfully grapples with pressing concerns such as global warming. Like his earlier work, the new ensemble manifests his unorthodox approach. Breuning devised a unique painterly technique involving large-format wooden stamps with which he presses paint onto the canvas. The result is unconventional and fresh.The publication— the first book dedicated exclusively to Breuning’ s paintings— presents two dozen pictures as well documentation of the production process in the form of wooden stamps and sculptures. This book brings together Rita Ackermann's "Mama" paintings, a selection of which will be on view in early 2020 at Hauser & Wirth New York, 22nd Street. It brings together screenwriter and filmmaker Harmony Korine's fake interview with Ackermann, a tribute addressed to the artist from Scott Griffin that explores Ackermann's interplay of time and medium, an original poem written by the artist, and a robust plate section that presents all of the "Mama" works made to date. Im Jahr 1960 wurde der Schweizer Künstler Jean Tinguely beauftragt, eine Skulptur für den Skulpturen-Garten des Museum of Modern Art in New York zu schaffen. In Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstlern und Ingenieuren entstand die sich selbst zerstörende Maschine Homage to New York, die während eines öffentlichen Happenings 27 Minuten in Betrieb war. Diese Skulptur war eine Hommage an die Energie einer Stadt, die sich immer wieder neu erfindet. Zum 50. Jahrestag von Tinguelys Aktion präsentieren das Museum Tinguely in Basel und das Swiss Institute in New York die Gruppenausstellung Under Destruction, die das ästhetische Potenzial der Zerstörung in der zeitgenössischen Kunst beleuchtet. 20 internationale Künstlerinnen und Künstler untersuchen die Rolle der Zerstörung, die von schöpferischer Kraft über Umwelt-Memento mori bis hin zu Wohlstandsmüll und poetischer Transformation reicht. Während vor fünfzig Jahren die Vision einer Apokalypse durch Atomkriege im Vordergrund stand, wird heute vor allem die Kritik an Konsum und Überproduktion thematisiert. Die Ausstellung zeigt Werke von Künstlern wie Nina Beier, Monica Bonvicini, Jimmie Durham, Christian Marclay und vielen anderen, begleitet von Texten namhafter Autoren.
