When Amory Ames is invited by an old friend to attend the dress rehearsal of a play he is directing, she is shocked to learn that he has cast his mistress Flora in the lead role. But Flora has been receiving threatening letters, and he needs their help in finding the sender. Despite Amory's conflicting feelings, she begins to investigate.
