A caterpillar lives a simple life on his leaf until one day when an Unknown Thing picks him up, calls him beautiful, and promptly exits, leaving the caterpillar wondering: What is beautiful? The caterpillar decides to embark on a quest, asking each animal in the forest, What is beautiful? Much to his surprise, each animal has a different response: A bear declares that honeycomb is beautiful, the squirrels find dry leaves to be beautiful, and a mole says his burrow is beautiful. All the while, the blackbird disagrees with each answer, pointing out that an empty can is beautiful. What's a caterpillar to do?
