More about the book
In 1876, Charles Doughty embarked on a pilgrimage caravan to Mecca, initiating a two-and-a-half-year odyssey among Bedouin encampments. Traveling without escort and with minimal resources, he traversed Arabia in search of biblical sites and remarkable geological formations. In this region of fervent Islam, he steadfastly refused to pass as a Muslim, risking his life in the process. His narrative, published in 1888, became a favorite of T.E. Lawrence and is regarded as a masterpiece of travel literature.
