The Rat Queen

Annie receives a pad of paper and colored pencils from her father, along with a family secret known as the nuodeema burna, or eater of sins, on her tenth birthday. Each misdeed she records and feeds to the burna alleviates her guilt but also stunts her emotional growth. As a plague of rats threatens her town and her understanding of her heritage deepens, Annie's journey to Litvania reveals the profound implications of her actions and the true nature of the burna.
