More about the book

Qiongfang Zha is a doctor of the Respiratory Department of Renji Hospital, Shanghai, China, and is a member of the first medical team sent out two days after the lockdown on Wuhan. She didn’t receive the notice of setting off until a few hours before their departure on Chinese New Year's Eve of 2020. At that moment, her heart was filled with worries because she lacked sufficient medical equipment, protective suits, and skills to prevent infection from the COVID-19. Yet in spite of great dangers ahead, they set out. Her 68 days in ICU and isolation wards fighting against the pandemic gave her unforgettable experiences in her life. Dr. Zha wrote in her diary the daily stories about the first-line professors, doctors, nurses, patients, dead patients, volunteers in ICUs, logistics personnel, hotel cooks, drivers, fire-fighters and so on, which were real and touching. This diary is not only Zha’s thoughts and reflections on fighting against the pandemic in Wuhan, but also the story of friendship and love during difficult times, which is of great humanistic value.
