More about the book

Engineer MacAllan wins powerful backers from high finance for his bold plan to create an underwater land connection between Europe and America. The construction of the tunnel begins, leading to the emergence of new cities. Speculators enter the scene, and funds from around the world are mobilized as workers from various nations dig through the earth. However, disasters strike the colossal project, and the tunnel company faces ruin. Despite these challenges, MacAllan manages to overcome all obstacles to complete his work, but the price he pays is his own happiness. Bernhard Kellermann, born in 1879 in Fürth and educated at the Technical University in Munich, achieved great success with his early lyrical novels. His futuristic novel "Der Tunnel" became a true international success, translated into twenty-five languages and adapted into a film in the United States since its first publication in 1913.
