House of the Beast

More about the book

Enter the House of the Beast in this dark fantasy debut from Michelle Wong, an illustrator known for The Legend of Korra. The story follows Alma, a young woman born out of wedlock and shunned by society, who seeks revenge on her aristocratic family after her mother falls gravely ill. Discovering a clue about her estranged father, she reaches out for help, unaware that she is a bastard of House Avera, one of four noble families serving the gods. Her father is a vessel of the Dread Beast, a terrifying god associated with death. In a desperate bid to save her mother, Alma sacrifices her left arm to the Beast, binding herself to the House and its deity. After her mother’s death, Alma finds herself trapped in the Avera estate, loathed by her relatives and manipulated by her father. With vengeance as her only motivation, she forms a strange bond with her god—a monstrous yet beautiful prince only she can see. He reveals that she is destined to bring change to their world. With his guidance, Alma embarks on a perilous journey to destroy the House that has taken everything from her. This gripping tale weaves together themes of revenge, resilience, and the transformative power of love amidst divine rituals and intense combat.
