More about the book

Kathy Reichs, praised by Ann Rule as "in a class by herself," gained fame with her international bestseller, "Deja Dead," lauded by P.D. James for its insights into murder investigation procedures. In her latest forensic thriller, Reichs delves into the aftermath of a tragic commercial airliner crash in western North Carolina. Forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan learns that an Air TransSouth flight has gone down, claiming eighty-eight lives, including possibly her daughter, Katy. Rushing to the scene as part of the regional DMORT team, Tempe confronts a horrific scene of destruction: bodies scattered among debris and personal belongings. As she collaborates with the FBI and NTSB to uncover the cause—be it a bomb, an insurance scheme, or mechanical failure—she discovers a disembodied foot that doesn't match any passenger. The investigation deepens with the presence of a prisoner being extradited on the flight, raising questions about motives for silencing him. Tempe's probing leads her to unsettling evidence in the nearby soil, hinting at hidden secrets and the possibility of interference in her investigation. With the support of Montreal detective Andrew Ryan and a loyal dog named Boyd, Tempe must summon her courage and forensic expertise to unravel a complex web of deceit and danger. Reichs combines sharp prose with gripping storytelling, solidifying her status as a leading figure in crime writing.
