Love and Rockets - 20: Dicks and Deedees

More about the book

This hardcover collection showcases the most popular characters from Love And Rockets, created by Jaime Hernandez and his brothers, Gilbert and Mario. Hernandez, a pioneer in giving voice to minorities and women in comics, focuses on the life of Maggie Chascarillo, a complex Mexican-American woman from a fictional Los Angeles barrio. As co-creator of Love & Rockets, along with Raw magazine, he played a crucial role in defining the modern literary comics movement. This new release marks the first Jaime Hernandez book since Love and Rockets' return in 2001, featuring a diverse array of stories from both L&R and Hernandez's comic Penny Century. Highlighted are the ongoing adventures of Maggie and Hopey in "Election Day" and "Everybody Loves Me, Baby," which includes nostalgic flashbacks to their punk days, a fan favorite. The surreal narrative "The Race" adds to the mix, while "The Frog Mouth" follows Maggie's ex-boyfriend Ray D. as he faces unexpected surprises from his old friend Doyle. Additionally, "Bay of Threes" explores the romance between Penny Century and H.R. Costigan, tracing their relationship from youth to old age. This collection celebrates the rich storytelling and character development that have made these works iconic in the comic book landscape.
