Herbert Zand Series
November 14, 1923 – July 14, 1970
Herbert Zand, the son of small farmers, hailed from the Austrian Salzkammergut. His literary output, encompassing novels, short stories, essays, and poems, was primarily a relentless pursuit of the adequate language to express his experiences and sensations. Utterly uncompromising with himself, he eschewed career, sales, and success, focusing instead on his singular artistic vision. Elias Canetti observed of him, "His words are nourished by silence: it will outlast the noise that deafens us."
