Tehdy, 29. srpna, byla nečekaně přetržena pětapadesátiletá éra panování Jagellonců v českém státě. Mladičký, dvacetiletý král Ludvík Jagellonský podstoupil se svou nekvalitní, nepříliš odhodlanou armádou nerovnou řež s přesilou tureckých nájezdníků u Moháče (na samém jihu dnešního Maďarska).
