Čtvrtým svazkem, Spisovatelé a leviatan, se uzavírá souborné vydání esejí George Orwella, které obsahuje celkem 241 esejí, analýz, recenzí a novinových sloupků z pera slavného spisovatele a novináře. V tomto závěrečném dílu, pokrývajícím roky 1947–1949 si můžeme přečíst další sloupky „Jak to vidím já“, které známe už z předchozího svazku, Orwellovy recenze (např. na román Jádro věci Grahama Greena nebo esej „Lidská duše za socialismu od Oscara Wildea“), ale samozřejmě i úvahy politické. Například esej „K evropské jednotě“ z r.1947, v němž ještě Orwell stihl zařadit Československo mezi země s „tradicí demokratického socialismu“ bude pro čtenáře nepochybně zajímavý i dnes.

Druhý svazek čtyřdílného projektu sebraných esejí George Orwella, Ohlédnutí za španělskou válkou:Eseje II. (1942–1944), přináší žánrově rozmanité útvary od slavných sloupků „Jak to vidím já“ přes literární recenze až po imaginární rozhovor s Jonathanem Swiftem či krutě sebezpytné obsáhlé eseje Ohlédnutí za španělskou válkou nebo Anglický národ. Na jednu stranu Orwell uplatňuje nesmiřitelný postoj levicového politického komentátora, který analyzuje soudobou anglickou společnost, nemilosrdně tepe sociální nerovnost a odhaluje ideologické pokrytectví. V jiné poloze však uplatňuje smysl pro detaily, jichž si všímá v životě lidí vnímaných jako individuality, nikoli jen bezejmenná masa tvořící dohromady množinu anglického národa či španělských republikánů. Popisuje-li „obyčejné“, anonymní aktéry dějinných událostí, vnímá je, i pokud stojí na opačné straně barikády, především jako lidské jedince, již mají v jeho očích všichni stejný nárok na štěstí, natož na samotný život. Jak říká v titulní eseji „Ohlédnutí za španělskou válkou“: „…Přišel jsem zastřelit „fašistu“, ale člověk, který si přidržuje kalhoty, není „fašista“, je to očividně blízký tvor, stejný jako vy, a vám se nechce ho zastřelit.“

Úpadek anglické vraždy, třetí svazek esejí George Orwella z let 1945-1946, přináší jak angažované texty „Proč píšu“, „Svoboda tisku“, „Vy a atomová bomba“ či „Antisemitismus v Británii“, tak eseje na domácká témata „Na obranu anglické kuchyně“, „Přímluva za otevřený oheň“, „Zamyšlení nad žábou obecnou“ a „Šálek dobrého čaje“, ale rovněž málo známé Orwellovy recenze, například Dostojevského Zločinu a trestu a Bratrů Karamazových nebo Pruského důstojníka D.H. Lawrence. Nelze také opomenout vtipné a trefné dobové úvahy zveřejňované ve sloupcích „Jak to vidím já“. Esejistické dílo George Orwella vychází ve čtyřech svazcích a obsahuje celkem 241 esejí, analýz, recenzí a novinových sloupků. V této podobě se jedná o nejúplnější, nejširší a naprosto vyčerpávající souhrn Orwellovy publicistiky v češtině.

Zejména román Lady Susan je důkazem, že se na něj nedívá skrze růžové brýle. Sanditon je její poslední dílo a román Watsonovi se jako jediný zachoval v rukopise.
