The persuasion of "Persuasion" is the persuasion of Anne Elliot by a family friend that the young man that she is in love with is an inappropriate match for her. Instead of following her heart Anne follows the advice of the family friend and lets her love go. Seven years passes and Anne, who is still alone, finds a second opportunity for true love when the man returns from sea. "Persuasion," Jane Austen's last completed novel, is the story of lost love and an older woman's chance to recapture the love that she thought was hopelessly lost.

Jak se z talentovaného dramatika a básníka stal jeden z největších autorů v dějinách literatury? V Shapirově nebývale živém líčení můžeme sledovat, co Shakespeare v roce 1599 četl, jaké hry viděl a s kým spolupracoval, stejně tak jako dějinné události, které hýbaly alžbětinskou Anglií. Výsledek už známe: v tomto událostmi nabitém roce Shakespeare investuje do nového divadla Globe a po večerech (!) napíše hned čtyři hry – Jindřicha V., Julia Caesara, Jak se vám líbí a konečně Hamleta – snad nejobdivovanější hru všech dob. Čtvrtým svazkem, Spisovatelé a leviatan, se uzavírá souborné vydání esejí George Orwella, které obsahuje celkem 241 esejí, analýz, recenzí a novinových sloupků z pera slavného spisovatele a novináře. V tomto závěrečném dílu, pokrývajícím roky 1947–1949 si můžeme přečíst další sloupky „Jak to vidím já“, které známe už z předchozího svazku, Orwellovy recenze (např. na román Jádro věci Grahama Greena nebo esej „Lidská duše za socialismu od Oscara Wildea“), ale samozřejmě i úvahy politické. Například esej „K evropské jednotě“ z r.1947, v němž ještě Orwell stihl zařadit Československo mezi země s „tradicí demokratického socialismu“ bude pro čtenáře nepochybně zajímavý i dnes.
