Christian Isobel Johnstone was a prolific Scottish journalist and author of the nineteenth century, recognized as a significant early feminist and an advocate for liberal causes. She skillfully navigated the literary world, often publishing her diverse works—spanning popular fiction for all ages and informative non-fiction—anonymously or under the pseudonym Margaret Dods. Johnstone's writing explored various themes, reflecting a unique voice that championed progressive ideas during her era. It was only later in her career that she began to publicly associate her name with her published works.
