Così il sussiegoso Kovaljov, che perde il naso, e lo sfortunato Certkov, del quale è invece l'anima a perdersi, frange sfilacciate nella più vasta visione della condizione umana, spaventose testimonianze d'un incolmabile baratro sentimentale e psicologico.
