Günter Brus Series
September 27, 1938 – February 10, 2024
Günter Brus, a co-founder of Viennese Actionism, is renowned for his aggressively presented performance art that intentionally defied conventions and taboos. His early works often featured narrative depictions of his performances and fantasies, characterized by a stark Expressionism. In his later writings, Brus evolved this style into a more romantic Expressionism, frequently employing the format of the fairy tale. Through this approach, he explored the shared intention between the enchantment found in journey-themed tales and the liturgical mythology present in performance art, lending his work a unique and compelling quality.
