Christian Boltanski Book order

Hans Ulrich Obrist und Christian Boltanski verbindet eine langjährige Freundschaft. Boltanski gehörte zu den Künstlern, die der heranwachsende Kurator Obrist in seiner ersten Ausstellung „World Soup" 1991 in seiner Wohnung in St. Gallen ausstellte. Im Sommer 1994 führte Obrist das erste längere Interview mit einem Künstler überhaupt: Christian Boltanksi. In diesem Band wird es zum ersten Mal publiziert. Das Buch beginnt mit diesem Gespräch und endet 2009, mit einem Treffen in Boltanskis Atelier. Ob auf einem Taxiboot in Venedig, im Atelier oder auf einer Ausstellung in Ljubljana, Boltanski gibt bereitwillig Auskunft über seine Projekte, die ihn auch in Bereiche darstellender Kunst wie Oper und Tanz führen. Thema sind ebenso seine Kooperationen mit anderen Künstlern wie Ilya Kabakov und dem Designer Jean Kalman. So entsteht das persönliche und vielstimmige Bild eines der wichtigsten Künstler unserer Zeit.

Born in 1944 in Paris, Boltanski is undoubtedly one of the most interesting French artists on the current scene. A man of many interests, he produces short films, composes real or fictional dossiers about his life, reconstructs an accident in which he dies, which has never happened to him, and files "moments" of his life in biscuit tins. His relationship with photography is fundamental: he collects photographic portraits and, since the mid-eighties, the contents of his works have been pervaded by the awareness of the memory of the tragic events of European history during the Second World War. This volume presents an exhaustive survey of Boltanski's artistic career from his early years and also records the research that led him to the creation of his most recent installations at Villa delle Rose in Bologna.
